Travel advice follows attack in Indonesia

Travel agents in Guernsey are advising people who have holidays booked at popular destinations such as Bali to check the latest advice being offered before they set off.

Yesterday a series of explosions rocked the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, and there were further gun battles on the streets.

The blasts were centred around Thamrin Street, a major shopping and business district, situated near to foreign embassies and the United Nations offices.

Five suspected attackers are reportedly among at least seven people killed.

It has been reported that the so-called Islamic State (IS) or Daesh has said it carried out the attack

However, Indonesian police said they suspected a local group allied to IS was to blame.

In Guernsey, World Travel director Jamie Blondel said that islanders tended to visit locations such as Bali and Lombok, rather than Jakarta, but he advised anyone travelling to Indonesia to keep abreast with the latest travel advice.

‘Travel with caution and keep updated with the Foreign Office advice,’ he said.

Mr Blondel said there was further advice for people travelling into Jakarta, including trying to stay together in large groups.
