Why Being a Passport Bro is the Best Choice I've Made  Vigour Times

Austin Abeyta, a self-proclaimed passport bro, is gaining popularity on TikTok as he documents his global adventures. However, he faces criticism from those who believe that women who date passport bros are solely interested in securing a Green Card. Despite this, Abeyta sees his lifestyle as an opportunity to find the right partner.

Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Abeyta was exposed to people from all over the US due to the city’s proximity to Army and Air Force bases. After moving to Seattle to work as a curriculum developer at a computer science school, he became disillusioned and considered working abroad. Faced with an unfulfilling routine of video games and burritos, Abeyta decided to become a digital nomad, taking advantage of remote work opportunities during the pandemic.

Convincing his manager, Sam, and ensuring that he remained productive while traveling were the initial challenges Abeyta faced. Fortunately, Sam was open-minded and took a risk by allowing Abeyta to work remotely anywhere in the world. This marked the beginning of his journey as a passport bro.

Abeyta has found dating outside the US to be more enjoyable and thrilling than dating within the country. Having traveled to 11 countries, he describes being a digital nomad as a life hack that allows him to vacation the moment he clocks out of work. Abeyta now considers himself a passport bro, seeking a life partner while exploring the world. Through his TikTok account, he connects with his 430,000 followers, sharing his journey and offering advice to others interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.

One of the major advantages of being a passport bro is the lower cost of living abroad. In many countries, earning $40,000 is sufficient to support a family, granting greater freedom and flexibility to Abeyta’s potential partner. In contrast, the higher cost of living in the US restricts the choices available for dual-income families. Abeyta emphasizes the importance of selecting partners who possess the qualities he desires, and he finds many women overseas to be more open-minded and compatible with his vision.

Despite the misconceptions and criticisms surrounding passport bros, Abeyta highlights that they work hard and pursue successful careers in various fields. He runs a Discord group for passport bros, fostering knowledge sharing and offering career advice. Abeyta refutes the elitist perspective that passport bros cannot meet the standards of women in the US. To him, traveling abroad to date is about expanding horizons and exploring different cultures, not a result of being unable to find a partner in the US.

Abeyta also challenges the belief that women who date passport bros are solely interested in obtaining a Green Card. He has encountered many individuals abroad who lead fulfilling lives and do not aspire to live in the US. Some of these women hold degrees from prestigious institutions and appreciate the opportunities that passport bros bring.

While Abeyta plans to continue his nomadic lifestyle for a few more years, he ultimately desires to settle down with the right person. Brazil, Colombia, and South Korea are currently at the top of his list as potential locations to start a family. As a digital nomad, he cherishes the freedom and possibilities that his lifestyle affords him. Abeyta envisions a life where he can provide for his family, allowing his partner the choice to stay at home and care for their children, if she so desires. His hard work and dedication are driven by his desire to create a comfortable and loving home for his future family.
