Planning international trips can be quite a task, from organising your itinerary to securing visas and dealing with international roaming packages or obtaining new SIM cards. However, there’s good news for travellers in India with the recent introduction of the e-SIM card, which promises to simplify international connectivity and potentially save you money.

Sensorise, an M2M service provider, has unveiled India’s first consumer travel eSIM, designed to offer global connectivity to travellers. This e-SIM card is suitable for various types of travellers, including leisure, corporate and students, and it comes at a more budget-friendly price point compared to traditional international roaming packages and similar solutions.

The mechanics of India’s e-SIM card

Priced at under USD 10, this e-SIM card can be obtained through the Sensorise mobile app. Users have the flexibility to choose from more than 1,000 customisable travel plans tailored for different countries, ensuring excellent coverage in 190 nations. The e-SIM card is a digital SIM card that allows users to subscribe to data and internet packages without the need to swap out their existing SIM card physically. Moreover, it eliminates the need for users to pay expensive roaming fees or hunt for public Wi-Fi networks while travelling abroad.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, new smartphones like Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are being launched as e-SIM-only devices, according to Onmanorama. While Motorola’s first-generation Razr flip phone was among the first to adopt this technology, more companies are likely to follow suit as the popularity of eSIM cards grows.
