Mexican Caribbean Aims to Lure Digital Nomads With Free High-Speed Internet - VisaGuide.News  VisaGuide.World

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing regional competitiveness, the state government of Quintana Roo unveiled an initiative to provide free access to high-speed internet for tourists and digital nomads in Cancun and its surroundings.

The latest announcement expands free high-speed internet services to include four additional areas, promising widespread benefits for locals, tourists, and digital nomads across the Mexican Caribbean region, VisaGuide.World reports.

Luis de Postestad, the Vice President of the internet company Gignet, disclosed that Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres are slated to be the next locales to benefit from the latest move.

Selected for their mix of tourist and local traffic, the chosen areas, including Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel, are recognized as hotspots for digital nomads, whose presence significantly contributes to the region’s overall economic growth and vibrancy.

In Cancun, the initial implementation of the free internet service commenced at Playa Delfines, extending to cover a total of 383 meters of local beaches.

As per the deployment plan, Tulum is slated to be included this year, aligning with the opening of the new Tulum International Airport to domestic flights in December and the commencement of international direct flights from the United States by the end of March.

Test deployments were initiated in Tulum, targeting key hotspots like the city center, municipal palace, and hotel zone.

In Isla Mujeres, two hotspots were in the planning phase, while Cozumel featured one hotspot, extending free high-speed Internet access in these areas.

The implementation of the free internet service in the other remaining areas is scheduled for the upcoming year.

Following the ongoing and upcoming deployments in the four designated areas this and next year, local officials overseeing the implementation of the free high-speed internet service outlined their plans to shift focus towards the Felipe Carrillo Puerto municipality.

Working closely with the State of Quintana Roo Office of the Governor, officials aim to create a master agreement to expand the free high-speed Internet service across the state, benefiting locals, families, tourists, and digital nomads alike.

With upcoming destinations like Tulum joining the initiative by the end of the year, the expanded connectivity significantly enhances the visitor experience in the Mexican Caribbean, proving to be a game-changer for digital nomads in the area.

For those drawn to the already appealing Internet areas of Playa del Carmen and Tulum, the introduction of free high-speed Internet service further amplifies their attractiveness.
