Fast Track Costa Rica 2024  International Living

Maybe you’ve been to Costa Rica? If so, you know what a strikingly beautiful country it is.

With its slower pace of living…focus on renewable energy (A staggering 99% of its energy comes from renewable, money-saving sources…)

…and abundance of healthy, fresh foods grown in the country, it’s earned a reputation as one of the “greenest and cleanest” countries in the world. You’ll experience little pollution, lots of clean water, and fresh air.

Expats who have settled there enjoy all the benefits of life in Costa Rica—and you could, too. For example:

  • Excellent weather—From the temperate Central Valley to the tropical Pacific and Caribbean beaches, there’s a climate for everyone. (Say goodbye to cold and snow.)
  • Top-quality affordable healthcare—visit an English-speaking, U.S.-trained doctor for $60—or a specialist for under $100.

And the really good news: You can qualify for the CAJA national health system that provides comprehensive coverage, no matter your age or pre-existing conditions.

  • Close to home—You can easily get a direct flight (less than three hours from Miami…3.5 hours from Houston) into two international airports in Costa Rica.
  • The most stable democracy in Latin America—No other country has the peaceful history and democratic stability of Costa Rica (and no army)!
  • All the comforts of home—modern shopping malls and world-class hospitals. Reliable high-speed Internet is available just about everywhere.
  • Low, low taxes—You’ll pay zero income taxes on foreign-earned income. If you buy a home in Costa Rica, your annual property taxes will be little more than $300-$750 in most cases.

And Costa Rica offers advantages most of us aren’t aware of:

  • A built-in community of English-speaking locals and expats—about 70,000 Americans—mostly retirees—live in Costa Rica. The number of Americans who collect their Social Security checks in Costa Rica has jumped 67% since 2002.
  • Thanks to the well-educated and cultured population, many international companies have offices, factories, and call centers there—contributing to the strong and stable economy. Instead of spending money on military, Costa Rica invests 8% of its GDP in education. (By comparison, the U.S. spends around 6%.)

All these reasons mean that…

…earning the top spot on the last four Happy Planet Indexes. It’s also a top-five finisher in International Living’s annual Global Retirement Index, year after year.

If you’ve been there, you know how friendly the Ticos are. That’s how Costa Ricans refer to themselves. Ticos welcome everyone with open arms.

It’s no wonder that thousands of North Americans are living Pura Vida in Costa Rica. And you could, too…
