This beautiful South American country is launching a new digital nomad visa

Do you have the opportunity to work remotely? Do you want to spend your evenings sampling ceviche and sipping on pisco sours, after a day of hiking Cordillera Huayhuash? Well, we’ve got some cracking news. 

Peru has joined the growing list of countries offering a digital nomad visa, becoming the sixth South American state to do so, alongside Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Ecuador. 

The visa will enable remote workers to live in Peru for up to a year, with the potential to extend their stay. Currently, visitors can stay there for up to 183 days on a tourist visa, but the hope is that the potential to stay longer and work will attract professionals who also visit tourist areas and support the economy. 

And there’s plenty to see. From the world-famous heights of Machu Picchu to the depths of the Amazon rainforest, you’ll need more than a year to explore everything Peru has to offer. 

What’s more, the capital of Lima has a growing digital nomad scene, and you can see why. It’s a coastal city, surrounded by stunning countryside and full of archeological sites, but also a whole host of brilliant museums and exceptional food. 

Plus, the cost of living is super budget-friendly. Online database Numbeo has found that life in Peru is 87 percent cheaper than in Italy, 112 percent cheaper than France and 120 percent cheaper than the UK. 

Fancy upping sticks and heading to stunning and affordable Peru for a year? So far the only requirement we know of is being employed by a company based outside of the country. Maybe next year it will make this list of the top 10 countries to be a digital nomad.
