The Hôtel Les Jardins du Luxembourg is a lovely boutique hotel in a quiet cul-de-sac steps away from the Luxembourg Garden in the 5th arrondissement. While single rooms average $165 and double rooms average $220, it’s the family-sized rooms that make this hotel stand out in terms of affordability. Finding a reasonably priced hotel in Paris that’s spacious enough to comfortably sleep two adults and two kids is highly challenging. Unlike most family hotels in Paris, the charming Hôtel Les Jardins du Luxembourg offers a gorgeous unit with two rooms separated by two sliding doors, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and a desk. Hotel Paris: Best for travelers who want to get off the tourist path Recommended by Chloe from Chloe’s Travelogue When I scored a great deal on a flight to Paris earlier this year, I started to plan a solo trip to Paris. Although one month was enough to plan my itinerary, securing an affordable hotel in the most desirable neighborhood was challenging. Then, I found C.O.Q. Hotel. C.O.Q. Hotel is a contemporary boutique hotel near the Place d’Italie. Like other hotels in Paris, the room is not big, but the stylish room has an efficient layout. Its smallest classic double room with a double bed is sufficient for solo or couple travelers. When I walked into the room, I immediately felt cozy. The room was tastefully designed with a super comfortable bed. A desk and open clothing rack were practical. The subway-tiled bathroom also was squeaky clean and modern, making me feel at home. There was no refrigerator in the room; however, guests could use a basket inside the fridge at reception. The hotel’s location might not be ideal for the first-timers as it is a bit off from the center. However, it is close to attractions on the left bank, such as Catacombs, Pantheon, Jardin du Luxembourg, etc. Also, it is right off the Place d’Italie station, so you can easily hop on the metro system. Near the Place d’Italie, there are many cute terrace cafes and restaurants without the tourist crowd. Also, it’s near a sizable police commissary, meaning the area is constantly being patrolled. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay at C.O.Q. Hotel. And I recommend it to solo or couple travelers who prefer to stay off the tourist paths. Citadines Bastille Marais Paris: Best for apartment facilities in a good location Recommended by Tanya Taylor of Travels & Treasures Citadines Bastille Marais Paris is recommended for those who want a comfortable bed in a good neighbourhood without paying a lot of money. The metro was less than a 2-minute walk away, and a variety of restaurants were about a 10-minute walk. The communications with the hotel in general were very good. I had several questions before arriving (eg. laundry, luggage storage) and was able to get those answered via email before our stay. Our flight arrived early and our room was not ready so we left the luggage in storage and returned at the designated check-in time of 3 pm. The check-in process is a bit of a wait. We were required to sign forms for the police department and I felt it could have gone much smoother. The room was clean and spacious with two double beds and a sofa bed. It was difficult to figure out how to unfold the sofa bed on the first night; it would have been nice to have some instruction. It’s perfect for a girls getaway, or family of four. There is no daily room service, but we were able to request a fresh set of towels or cleaning when desired. We purchased some sanitized wipes for the bathrooms but needed new bath linens and bath tissue after three days, which the hotel promptly provided. There are safes in the hotel for added security. Overall, the beds were comfortable, the evenings were quiet, and we got a good night’s rest. The location was good but you’ll need to take the metro to the main attractions. It is owned and operated by the Parisian hotel chain Astotel, and is located 10 minutes away from the Arc de Triomph and Champs-Elysses. During shoulder and low seasons, you can snag a room from $125 per night. Hotel Regent’s Garden is the perfect hotel for couples. The rooms are large for European standards, with king-sized beds and enough space to move around. There are floral motifs in each room with jewel-toned colors. I highly recommend booking a room with a view of the garden! If the weather permits, hang outside in the garden with a cup of coffee (my husband and I couldn’t because it was raining during our stay). Hotel Rose Bourbon, in the 15th arrondissement, is the perfect budget-friendly boutique hotel for your next trip to Paris. The hotel’s romantic decor makes it an especially nice place to stay for couples visiting the City of Love.
Hotel Rose Bourbon is a small boutique hotel with just 39 rooms. They have rooms ranging from smaller single rooms great for solo travelers to more spacious double rooms perfect for couples on a romantic getaway.
Since there aren’t many major Parisian landmarks located in the 15th, hotels there tend to be more affordable. But, it’s still easy to get around Paris from there.
You can walk from the hotel to the Eiffel Tower, or head to the nearby metro stations (Félix Faure, Commerce, and Boucicaut stations) to travel to other locations in the city, like the Louvre.
The hotel doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, but they do serve breakfast each morning. The surrounding neighborhood has many incredible restaurants. Reserve a table at Chez Ciccio for one of the best Italian meals you’ll ever have!

Le Village Montmartre Hostel: Best for groups of all sizes on a budget

Le Village Montmartre Hostel is a great hostel near the Basilica of Sacré-Coeur, in the famous neighborhood of Montmartre.
The rooms are located inside a typical Hausmann building, with wooden ceiling beams. Most rooms are dorms of 4 to 12 beds, but there are also private double rooms and triple rooms.
The private rooms are ideal for families or couples, while in the dorms, you meet mostly solo travelers or groups of friends. This is one of the best places to stay for the Paris Olympics or other big events, without breaking the bank.
The outdoor terrace and select rooms offer a direct view on the Basilica, which is insane considering the price! The vibe of the hostel is really cool, with travelers from all around the world sharing their stories.
Cost: From $27 USD ($37 CAD, €25, £21) per night in a shared dorm
Hotel de la Mare: Best for travellers who want to save $ off the beaten path

There’s a good budget hotel option in the Belleville/Menilmontant area.
Lots of cities have an area like Belleville: historically a run-down area, then artists and creatives were attracted to lower rents and now it’s a fairly trendy area, while still being a bit rough around the edges.
Hôtel & Résidence de la Mare offers simple accommodation with kitchenette facilities, with prices starting from $60-90 for a single room with shared bathroom to $95 to $140 for a double room with private bathroom. There are some suites available, too, and a simple breakfast is available for an extra charge.
It might not be one of the best places to stay for first-timers in Paris – because first-time visitors to Paris often want to be a bit closer to famous Paris landmarks.
However, if you like to get off the beaten path, there are some lesser-known attractions nearby, like Belleville Park and La Petite Ceinture, a disused railway line that is now a city park.
And there are some really great cafes and restaurants within walking distance, including on Place Henri Krasucki and Rue de Ménilmontant.
Heads up: it’s a hilly area! To minimise your uphill walks, use Jourdain station to travel to the hotel, meaning the walk to the hotel is all downhill. And to travel from the hotel, walk downhill again to Ménilmontant or Couronnes stations. Your legs will thank you!

Hôtel Perreyve: Best for solo or couple travellers in a great arrondissement

One of my favorite Paris hotels to stay at on a budget is Hôtel Perreyve in the 6th arrondissement.
This property is located steps away from the Luxembourg Gardens, and it’s also within short walking distance of several well-connected metro stations such as Saint-Placide, Rennes, and Notre-Dame des Champs.
It’s also within walking distance of Montparnasse Tower, which has one of the best views in all of Paris.
Hôtel Perreyve is a great option for budget travelers because it puts you in the heart of the 6th arrondissement near amazing restaurants, parks, and attractions without the hefty price tag.
This hotel is likely best for solo travelers and couples, as the rooms are smaller and the property is located on a relatively quiet street.
It’s charming and quaint but doesn’t have the frills of a luxury property or resort. Breakfast is available at an additional charge, though there are several incredible boulangeries nearby.
Nightly rates for a single room at Hôtel Perreyve start at €90, but vary depending on seasonality. For reference, I stayed at Hôtel Perreyve in a single room for 7-nights in July 2023 and paid roughly €158 per night.

Grand Hotel Dechampaigne: Best for a unique stay in a central location

Grand Hotel Dechampaigne is a gem of a budget hotel for solo travelers, couples, or small families visiting Paris. It’s a three-star hotel for the price of a two-star (my favorite kind of hotel find!).
You absolutely can’t beat the location; it’s in the 1st arrondissement, only a few minutes’ walk from the famous Pont Neuf, and a couple of blocks away from the Louvre. That means all of the best Paris sites, including Notre Dame, are within easy walking distance.
It’s also located near the underrated Musée Carnavalet, a free museum dedicated to the history of Paris.
I love that this budget Paris hotel has a unique feel to it, without the run-of-the-mill, generic hotel decor. Instead, it feels like you’re staying in a castle, complete with heavy draperies, red velvet-upholstered furniture, and stone walls. My room even had a deep soaker tub!

Hotel Flor Rivoli: Best for sightseeing and shopping

Hotel Flor Rivoli is a 2-star hotel with a very central location that is situated along the iconic shopping street Rue de Rivoli.

Hotel Flor Rivoli has all the amenities you might need for a relaxing city trip, including a 24-hour reception, which is not always available at a budget hotel.
What I also liked a lot about the hotel, besides its really central location, is that there are many stores nearby. There’s even a supermarket (Franprix) next to it and this is very convenient as it’s easy to get some drinks and food there before or after sightseeing.
I also liked that the staff of the hotel is very friendly.

How long should you stay in Paris?
I think three days is a good amount of time to stay in Paris. Of course, there’s enough to do in Paris to fill weeks, especially if you want to visit every little museum, gallery and bakery. But if you’re short on time or getting priced out, even two days in Paris is enough to hit the highlights.
Remember, you can always come back! You don’t have to fit all of Paris into one trip.
Where is the best place to stay in Paris?
Unlike some other European cities, Paris’ most famous landmarks are spread out. So there’s not one central area or arrondissement where you can stay and easily walk to everything you want to see.
That being said, many of the highlights of Paris are located along the Seine, so staying along the river is a good idea. It’s also a good idea to stay by a metro or train station so you can easily transit to wherever you want to go.
If you’re going to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, be sure to check how far your accommodation is from the Olympic events you are attending. As traffic will likely be bad, it would be ideal if you could walk or take the metro to your sporting events.
When should you book accommodation in Paris?
As soon as possible! If you’re visiting in the high season (summer, late spring and early fall) and especially if you’re visiting for the Olympics, you’ll want to book your accommodation as early as you can.
I recommend booking a fully refundable rate. That way, if your plans change or if you find a better hotel, you can cancel without losing any of your money.
What quirks do Paris hotels have?
Parisian hotels, like most hotels in Europe, are small compared to hotels you might find in the US and Canada. Expect smaller rooms, smaller beds and smaller bathrooms. You also may find the toilet in a separate room from the shower.
In older hotels, it’s common to only have stairs, no elevator. If you have mobility issues, look out for this and request an accessible room on the ground floor.
It’s also very common for older hotels to not have any air conditioning. This can be particularly painful during European summers, so keep this in mind when choosing where to stay in Paris.
Besides the room rate, what other costs should you look out for in your Paris accommodation price?
Most accommodation websites, like Booking, do a good job at showing you the final price including all taxes. Booking also makes it very clear what money you’re paying in advance and what you owe on arrival, as well as if you’re paying in your home currency or in Euros in Paris.
If you’re using a different hotel website, double check that taxes (including city taxes) are included in the price you’re seeing. Keep an eye on what currency you’re being charged in and if the room rate is refundable or not.
You’ll also want to check and see if parking or breakfast are included. You won’t need a car in Paris so parking isn’t necessary.
As for breakfast, I much prefer skipping the pricey hotel breakfast and getting a much cheaper (and much more delicious!) fresh croissant from a local boulangerie.
Is it worth staying outside of the city to save money?
If you find a great deal on accommodation outside of the city centre or outside of Paris entirely, it might be worth it if you can easily get into Paris. If you have to spend hours switching trains and taking buses, I probably wouldn’t bother.
You’ll also want to keep in mind how much it’s costing you to get into Paris. If you’re spending a lot on train fare or taxi rides, you might end up spending more than if you had just stayed in the city.
Keep in mind that France is no stranger to train strikes. If strikes are planned during your visit, that may seriously impact your ability to get into the city.
Besides cheap hotels, where else can you stay in Paris on a budget?
If budget hotels in Paris don’t work out for you, you can also check Airbnb or another vacation apartment rental website. Vacation apartments usually have a kitchen, which means you can save more money by cooking some of your own meals.
You could also try housesitting, through websites like Trusted Housesitters, or house swaps, through websites like Home Exchange. My aunt and her family have done a few swaps on Home Exchange, including staying in a home in Paris!
Other budget options include hostels, camping, and staying in RV or campervan parks.
Conclusion: Where is the best place to stay in Paris if you’re on a budget?
Despite what we see in the movies, you can stay in Paris without emptying your bank account on a luxury suite. I mean, I’m not saying no if someone else wants to foot the bill! But it’s also very possible to stay in Paris on a budget.
I really enjoyed our stay at OKKO Hotel and will definitely book there again for future Paris trips. It was so convenient for taking the train into and out of Paris, and I really loved the modern design.
I’m also loving the look of Hôtel Perreyve, which seems like such a steal for the great location, and Hôtel Les Jardins du Luxembourg, which would be great for families or groups of friends (and has an impressive rating of 9/10 on Booking!).
If you’re really on a budget, you can’t do better than $27/night at Le Village Montmartre Hostel. Yes, that’s for a shared dorm, but this is seriously the nicest looking hostel I’ve ever seen. And even their private rooms are very affordable.
Wherever you decide to stay in Paris, I hope this post has proven that it’s possible to find a hotel that is charming, clean, comfortable, central and, the most important C of all, cheap!
