Hội An is famous for its lantern-lit streets, basket boats, and tailor-made clothing, but its coffee and cafe culture is another reason to visit (and linger) in this ancient city.

At an initial wander around the Old Quarter, it would seem that Hoi An doesn’t offer much in the way of good coffee and spacious cafes ideal for digital nomads like me. But they’re out there!

You just have to know where to look (which is where this guide comes in).

Enjoying a slow morning at Café Slow, Hoi An

During my weeks wandering Hoi An, I got to try over a dozen of Hoi An’s cafes.

Most of Hoi An’s best cafes aren’t on the main drag, which is great if you’re looking for real hidden gems.

In fact, I include only 1-2 cafes in the Old Town in this roundup! All the others are dotted around the underrated places to visit in Hoi An.

Come with me as we dive into some of Hoi An’s top coffee and cafe spots, where each place uncovers more of the heart and community of this magical town.

10 of the Best Cafes & Coffee Shops in Hoi An

This roundup includes Hội An’s best cafes across multiple categories: coffee, atmosphere/vibes, remote working/wifi, and food/brunch options!

Note: Most of these cafes are within walking distance from the Ancient Town, but not all are.

To get to/from these cafes, I recommend downloading and using the Grab app to hail a motorcycle taxi (best for solo travelers) or a car for groups.

If you’re adventurous and familiar with driving in SE Asia, you can rent a scooter for the week or month and commute between cafes that way, which we did during our time in Hội An!

Read more below for an overview of the best cafes in Hoi An all around!

1. nourish eatery.

  • 9am–4pm (closed Mondays)
  • Plant-based menu, Wifi/coworking area
  • Cẩm Châu area (east of Old Town)
Food, Wi-Fi, and atmosphere—Nourish Eatery has it all!

Nourish is the cafe of choice whether you’re looking for great food, vibes, coffee, or wifi. It has it all!

What I love about Nourish is its semi-open-air atmosphere, earthy tones, and plants. It just feels good to walk in here! 🪴

They serve all-day breakfast and brunch, or you can just come for great coffee and get some work done.

With ample space, light, and a dedicated mezzanine for getting work done on your laptop, it’s one of Hoi An’s most remote work-friendly cafes.

We came here multiple times to dig into their vegan burgers and truffle fries before spending the afternoon working. Oh, and their oat milk-cacao-date shake is heaven!

I always get so much productive work done here and often daydream about returning for the above.

I highly recommend stopping by nourish eatery, even if you’re passing through on vacation or are a digital nomad in Hoi An looking for a weekly cafe to work from.

In short, Nourish Cafe is a must-visit if you’re seeking a plant-based menu and want to feel inspired to work!

2. Café Slow

  • 7:30am–6pm (closed Wednesdays)
  • Specialty coffee and pastries
  • Trà Quế village (3km north of Old Town)

Away from car lanes and heavy foot traffic, you won’t find a more tranquil coffee shop in Hoi An than Café Slow.

This endearing shop is nestled amid the lush green gardens and fertile farmland of the Tra Que Vegetable Village. It is easy to miss if you only stick to Hoi An’s well-trodden path.

This place is a hidden gem just 3km from Hoi An’s Ancient Town, and I hope you will visit it mindfully!

With open windows, calm music, and wooden architecture, Café Slow feels more like someone’s open-air house rather than a coffee shop. And I guess that’s the point.

That said, because of its coziness, there isn’t much seating available here to get work done (two bench tables are outside).

The best seats in the house are arguably on the front porch, ideal for slowing down with a coffee in hand and appreciating the garden views.

Afterward, take advantage of the area and consider doing a Tra Que bicycle tour or a cooking class and herbal massage!

3. Sound of Silence

  • 7am–7pm
  • Coffee/tea, fusion food
  • Cẩm An (An Bang Beach)

Next, head to the coast to An Bang Beach for a different pace altogether.

While you’ll find a few other restaurants and cafes here, check out the Sound of Silence.

If fresh coconuts, beach views, and garden seating, where you can work peacefully over wifi, is your vibe, you’ll love it here.

This cafe/beachfront restaurant is an underrated spot in Hoi An’s cafe scene. Not many tourists, other than the longer-staying digital nomads, know about it.

We often came here for an all-day out work session, starting with brunch, then afternoon coworking/coffee, and finishing the day with a sunset swim. (Or an on-site massage, which we did once!)

4. Good Eats (& Lagom)

  • 8am–4pm
  • Vegetarian, coffee, brunch, coworking, bakery
  • Cẩm Châu area (east of Old Town)
Good Eats probably has one of the best açai bowls in Hoi An!

Another cafe you can’t miss in Hoi An is Good Eats. Its plant-based food, smoothies, and coworking atmosphere are also on point! The vibe is very similar to Nourish.

We’d come here each week for colorful and delicious smoothie bowls and vegetarian spring rolls and work away on the free wifi for a few hours.

What I like about Good Eats is that you can whip out your laptop without feeling in the way. There are ample tables and outlets to charge your phone and laptop.

Also, Good Eats is not overly busy, which is how Nourish sometimes feels (especially during breakfast/brunch hours).

The ideal itinerary would be to grab a healthy meal at Good Eats, get some work done, and then cozy up inside Lagom, its next-door bakery, for a coffee and a sweet treat.

5. Rivia Coffee & Breakfast/Brunch

  • 7am–5pm
  • Vegetarian, coffee, brunch, coworking, bakery
  • Cẩm Châu area (east of Old Town)
Look how cute this place is!

Rivia! This sweet and artsy coffee/brunch house is an underrated cafe outside Hoi An’s Old Town.

It’s located on the other islet just south of Good Eats and Nourish, down an unassuming road. It’s easy to miss unless you happen to be walking along the Thu Bon River.

Think friendly staff, a café doggie, soft jazz music, great coffee and pastries, and artsy decor.

Oh, and not to mention the views on the Thu Bon River!

Rivia Coffee has an awesome atmosphere for coffee, breakfast/brunch, or coworking.

It’s still relatively new to Hoi An’s cafe/coffee shop scene, contributing to its underrated gem status!

The owners even let us work on the porch after hours the first time we went. Its welcoming down-home, friendly vibe is what made us come back!

I highly recommend visiting for breakfast/brunch, but especially late afternoons for coffee and chill vibes before sunset.

Once the doors of Rivia Coffee close, stroll along the Thu Bon riverside or cross the bridge to Hoi An’s Memory Land to watch the unbelievable Hoi An Memories Show (which is a must-do if you enjoy live-action plays, music, and culture!).

6. Olivier Coffee

  • 7am–9:30pm
  • Specialty coffee and drinks
  • Cẩm Nam (on the islet south of Old Town)
See what I mean? Such a great cafe in Hoi An.

If Bali, Sedona, and Hoi An (and maybe even Santorini?) were to have a child, it would be Olivier Coffee. The vibes all mix here in this open-air cafe that’s as cute as it is convenient.

This top-rated cafe used to be located in Hoi An’s Old Town, but the owner decided to move locations due to ever-increasing rental prices.

Still, it’s one of the best coffee shops in Hoi An!

Expect (really) good coffee, including Vietnamese salt coffee, decent wifi, and down-to-earth vibes.

They also serve blended drinks, milk tea, and smoothies. And now, you can even reserve coffee classes!

7. Rosie’s Cafe

  • 8am–4pm (closed Sundays)
  • Breakfast/Brunch, drip coffee
  • Cẩm Sơn (north of Old Town)
Passion fruit juice is my go-to Hoi An order!

If you are looking for a healthy brunch spot rather than a coffee and cowork cafe, look no further than Rosie’s Cafe in Hoi An.

Out of all the places for breakfast/brunch in town, Rosie’s is my favorite. They are always fully seated, a testament to their delicious smoothies, fresh juices, and healthy brunch food.

Rosie’s was actually one of Hoi An’s first coffee shops to serve brunch food! Now you can find lots of coffee shops selling bites alongside coffee.

Dig into sweet and salty plates here—from pancake stacks and oversized omelets to avocado toasts with a breakfast sausage to a hearty Southwest chicken salad bowl.

Rosie’s is just north of the Old Quarter, in the same area as our gym (HealthFit—a great place to work out or do yoga in Hoi An).

We wouldn’t come here to work on our laptops and linger—it gets too busy, and the tables are better suited for a relaxed meal.

8. Phin

  • 8am–9:30pm
  • Lunch/Dinner, Specialty Coffee
  • Old Town
Phin is a secret cafe in the backstreets of the Old Quarter!

Another brunch spot and cafe worth visiting is in the backstreets of Hoi An’s Ancient Town, where you’ll find the Phin Coffee Restaurant hidden in a plant-filled oasis.

While I haven’t worked at Phin, its food and atmosphere are worth adding to your must-visit list! Plus, they are one of the top go-to spots for great coffee.

They serve premium local single-origin coffee and offer coffee classes similar to Olivier’s.

9. XLIII Specialty Coffee

  • 6:30am–10:30pm
  • Specialty coffee
  • Old Town Hoi An (Da Nang location as well)
Coffee tasting at XLIII (Da Nang location)

Lastly, for true coffee connoisseurs, XLIII is the best specialty coffee you’ll find in Hoi An, or arguably along this stretch of coastline.

We first discovered their Da Nang cafe (an architectural beauty), but they also have a new Hoi An location that we haven’t yet passed by. So, if you get to, do!

XLIII are true specialists in coffee culture.

We have done several coffee tastings with them in Da Nang and always returned to source our beans.

As we learned during our time in Hoi An and Hanoi, the Vietnamese use mostly Robusta coffee beans instead of Arabica beans because Robusta beans have a bolder flavor profile compared to Arabica’s smoother complex.

This makes them ideal for many of Vietnam’s specialty coffee drinks, such as egg coffee or salt coffee, which contain sweetened condensed milk to balance out the boldness.

Many coffee shops and cafes in Hoi An use both Robusta and Arabica beans. Sometimes, you can choose which you prefer for your order.

My Final Thoughts on Hoi An’s Cafés

If you know where to look beyond Hoi An’s Ancient Town, there are a lot of cafes and coffee shops hiding in plain sight.

Blogging away in Hoi An! (Rivia Cafe)

I didn’t get to include all the cafes we discovered here, but these nine include my favorite.

For journaling, reflecting, and perfect vibes, Café Slow will always be my go-to cafe in Hoi An.

On the other hand, if I need to punch out some productive work, I’ll happily return to Nourish or Good Eats again and again.

I have more restaurants and bars beyond cafes to recommend, so stay tuned!
