Do you dream of living the Dolce Vita? If you’re planning an Italian adventure, then there’s good news that will make your trip even easier.

One of Italy’s most popular destinations, especially during the summer months, is the beautiful Amalfi Coast.

Right now if you want to visit this area (and millions of people do!) then you’ll need to fly into Naples and then travel by a combination of train and buses to reach your final destination.

Not easy when you’re exhausted and trying to carry your luggage!

But all that is set to change, making visiting the Amalfi Coast more appealing than ever before. Here’s what you need to know:

A New Airport For The Amalfi Coast

Starting this summer travelers can choose to avoid Naples Airport and fly into Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport instead.

This airport is much closer to the coastal locations travelers actually want to visit! It’s 45 kilometers southeast of Amaldi and 21 kilometers from Salerno.

The airport originally served as a military airport and then a private airport before being closed completely in 2016.

But from July it will be reopened and repurposed as an international commercial airport. The runway has been extended and work is underway on a new passenger terminal which will be completed by 2027.

Where Will Fly To Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport?

The full list of airlines flying into Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport is yet to be announced and will change as demand for the airport from passengers rises.

But what we know right now is that Volotea, the Spanish budget airline, will be the first to launch flights from the airport on July 11.

They will start by launching 4 routes to and from Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport to Cagliari, Verona, and Catania in Italy as well as to Nantes in France.

The UK budget airline EasyJet will also offer direct flights to and from Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and airports like London Gatwick and Basel.

American travelers wanting to visit the Amalfi coast may find it’s easier to fly to London Gatwick and then transfer directly to the Easyjet flight for Salerno Costa d’Amalfi airport rather than fly into Naples and struggle on public transport.

There are hopes (from me!) that the airport will also introduce a direct flight to the U.S. in the near-future.

According to airport authorities, new airlines and flight routes will continue to be added from this summer until 2043, when the airport is expected to reach its flight capacity.

Why Visit The Amalfi Coast?

The Amalfi Coast is far from the longest coastline in Italy: It only stretches over 30 miles. But what an iconic, and eye-catchingly beautiful 30 miles!

The Amalfi Coast is famous for its breathtaking scenic views that seem straight out of a dream, its iconic lemon groves, and luxury lifestyles.

The pretty seaside town of Amalfi is the most famous town along the Amalfi coastline, but the most beautiful is Positano.

Visit Positano for the incredible cliff-top views over azure seas, the pebble beachfront (which is crowded with beautiful people sunbathing during the height of the summer), and the steep, narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes.

Positano is more exclusive and luxury feel than other towns along the Amalfi Coast, and the price tag to match. But to be honest, nowhere along the Amalfi Coast can be considered affordable during the summer months. Be prepared to blow the budget!

My tips? Book incredibly early if you want to visit the Amalfi Coast during the summer months because limited supply and high demand means hotels and apartment book up quickly, with the most affordable options going first.

Consider visiting during the Spring and Fall shoulder seasons for lower prices on the ground, as well as to avoid the high crowd levels of the summer season.
