I’m a female traveller – the FIVE Asian countries I felt safest in
2 min readA female solo traveller has revealed the five countries that she felt safest in while holidaying around Asia.
Posting to TikTok about her experiences on the continent while voyaging alone, Courtney, under the handle @shetravelledtheworld, shared her list on the social media platform – after visiting 19 countries across Asia.
First up, she said Kyrgyzstan was fifth on her list. Being the first country she had visited in central Asia, the solo backpacker admitted that she was unsure about what to expect.
She said: ‘I was pleasantly surprised by how safe I felt the whole time, even in the capital city of Bishkek. English is not that widely spoken but people were always more than happy to help’.
Next, Courtney praised Thailand for being one of the safest countries she has visited in Asia – pointing that it is ‘called the land of smiles for a reason’.
She continued: ‘I always felt right at home [in Thailand]. I would actually say that, more than anything, the people who make you feel unsafe in the country are the rowdy tourists’.
‘If that’s not what you are looking for though, there are many more tranquil spots in the country which are off the beaten trail’.
Thirdly, Courtney picked Indonesia as another Asian country that she felt deserved to be praised for how safe she felt while visiting.
Singling out Bali in particular for how hospitable they were towards her, the vlogger remarked: ‘It is true that Balinese people are ridiculously kind and helpful’.
‘I also ventured to East Java and Lomboc along with some of the smaller surrounding islands by Bali and I can confirm people are just as friendly’.
Picking the penultimate area on her list, Courtney opted for Taiwan, despite only spending a few days on the island.
The solo traveller said: ‘This was my first introduction to eastern Asia but I felt unbelievably safe, especially when walking around alone at night’.
‘Taiwanese people are a bit more reserved and it can feel a bit more daunting because it’s a big city, however, it’s a new favourite destination of mine’.
Earning top spot on her list was Singapore, which is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in the world due to enforcing tough laws to prevent crime.
Indeed, it is one of the only remaining countries in the world where the death penalty is still used.
Courtney stated: ‘Singapore is a great starting point for anyone who wants to delve into Asia or wants a tester of solo travelling’.
