If you’ve been toying with the idea of jetting off to sunny Mexico in the near future, the time to book those flights is now: boasting unruffled, powdery white sands and minimal crowding, a tropical island near Cancun is offering 30% discounts across multiple services!

Holbox is one of the best picks for travelers heading to the Mexican Caribbean this season. It is a car-free island that has yet to experience the dark side of tourism and remains largely protected from overdevelopment thanks to its status as a nature preserve.

On top of that, it is in fact encouraging tourists to come by slashing accommodation rates and even ferry tickets significantly:

30% Off On Hotels This Season!

As reported by the Cancun Sun, the leading English source for all things Mexican Caribbean, hotels and private accommodation providers in Holbox are offering up to 30 percent off overnights on the island in a bid to increase less-than-impressive visitor numbers.

This means you can now find hotels in Holbox for under $100 a night, with some of the cheapest mid-November offers taken from Booking.com listed below:

All of the rates above refer to standard double or deluxe rooms in 3 or 4-star properties, and do not include al-inclusive deals––that being said, the cheapest all-inclusive is listing is Mystique Holbox by Royalton, with nightly rates starting from a surprisingly-economical $217.

Why Is Holbox Slashing Prices?

At such attractive rates, you may be wondering what is it about Holbox that isn’t attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors, and whether there is something, well, ‘wrong’ with it.

The answer is simple: we’re in the midst of an active hurricane season, and visitor numbers have slightly dropped in response––that being said, Holbox remains very safe to visit, as authorities are well-prepared to deal with the natural phenomenon.

Hurricane alerts are issued promptly in the event of a landfall, and hotels are well-equipped to keep guests protected and out of harm’s way in the unlikely event a particularly-disruptive storm reaches the otherwise-peaceful island.

Many tourists think that, as it’s peak season for hurricanes, the island isn’t prepared to host them, but as Christian Stenta, vice-president of the local Association of Hotels, has stated, discounts are being given precisely to prove to them Holbox is low-risk to visit.

In his own words, the recent hurricanes Helene and Milton have caused no significant material damage, and services on the island are fully back to normal.

Besides the big discount on accommodation, tourists visiting Holbox in the coming weeks will also pay less to get to the island itself.

As you should know at this point, the only way to reach Holbox is taking a ferry from Chiquila, a municipality sitting across from the island on the mainland, with crossings taking only 25 minutes to complete.

Tickets cost roughly $18, the equivalent of 300 Mexican pesos, so now you should expect to pay an even cheaper $12.60 to go on the boat.

But wait, there’s more!

In addition to the hotels and the ferry, you’ll also be charged 30% less to ride the bus from Cancun to Chiquita, the most frequently used route for independent travelers getting to Holbox who have not rented a car. Prices will drop from $19 – 20 to $13.30 -14.

The Perfect Alternative To A Buzzing Coast

Holbox is typically one of the quietest destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, owing to its limited capacity compared to the resort-lined Riviera Maya and the appeal of being far more exclusive than a jam-packed Cancun.

It’s even less busy now, with visitor numbers down, despite the fact that all the damage and flooding caused by the latest hurricanes have already been repaired, and the island’s beaches are back to being clean and pristine.

If you’re looking for unique activities to do in Holbox while the crowds are gone, we suggest taking a kayaking tour at night, when the bioluminescent coral reefs glow a vivid blue, biking around the Yum Balam Nature Reserve, or exploring Holbox Village and its many laid-back restaurants.
