Moving and starting a new life abroad is never easy, there are a load of things to be considered when making such a huge life decision and safety is most likely the top of the list when selecting a destination.

Well according to a new ranking, a vast number of the safest countries for expats are in Europe including the world’s safest, so for any Brits looking to pack their pages and start a new life, you might not have to head off too far.

Expat insurance provider, William Russell has ranked the safest countries to live in as an expat this year.

The ranking used information from the 2024 Global Peace Index and the World Risk Report, which looks at factors such as political instability, the level of violent crime, the impact of terrorism, and vulnerability to natural disasters.

The company also took in consideration factors such as healthcare access and digital security.

And according to the results the beautiful European nation, Iceland is the safest country in the world for those who would like to move away from home.

Iceland already has a big expat population, according to Statistics Iceland, over 20% of its population was born overseas.

There are many features that put Iceland at the top including the fact that it has topped the Global Peace Index list since 2008 as a result of its low crime rate and avoidance of international conflicts.

William Russell also mentioned that the country topped its ranking owing to factors such as environmental safety as there are few dangerous wildlife and excellent air quality, reports Business Insider.

As well as being the safest, Iceland prides itself in having various reasons why people should opt to move there, including their world-life balance, value for innovation and creative approach and equality at work where according to Work Iceland, the country has been “a leader in gender equality since 2009”.

Although the country is the safest, another thing that does also need to be considered is the high cost of living, with the country itself even noting that finding affordable housing is difficult for both expats and Icelanders.

However, the website said:”Asking Icelanders for help, for example, your new colleagues is probably the best way to search for a place.”

It has plenty of more information for those interested in starting a new adventure there.
