The growing trend of remote work has given birth to a new tribe of laptop-wielding digital nomads, or globally mobile remote workers.

According to Knight Frank’s The Wealth Report 2025, this growing tribe of digital nomads is transforming the world’s most beautiful cities, resulting in many countries such as Portugal, Spain, and Thailand tightening the policies for digital nomads.
Many other countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Denmark, have implemented regulations to limit foreign property ownership.

However, the governments across the world are unlikely to make the rules so tight that it meaningfully “curtails the travel of remote workers.”

Moreover, this trend of digital nomads is not going to end anytime soon as several companies across the world are contemplating to offer remote work options across their national borders to retain talent and remain competitive.

For instance, around 49% businesses in Australia and 48% companies in Belgium are anticipating to offer remote work opportunities, according to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025. In Switzerland, around 36% of businesses are facing talent retention issues and they plan to solve this through remote work options.

If you are planning to join the ranks of digital nomads, you might be spoilt for choice as multiple countries offer digital nomad visas, as per the Knight Frank report. Additionally, each option involves a cost. Let’s have a look:
