Free author talk about the adventures of Judith Fein and Paul Ross at the Ruidoso Library

The public is invited to a free author talk on April 26 at 2 p.m. at the Ruidoso Public Library, 107 Kansas City Road, with author Judith Fein and photographer Paul J. Ross as they share their travel experiences and introduce some of the enchanting folks they met along the way.

The art of slow travel is a transformative approach to exploring the world that emphasizes deep connections, unexpected encounters and unforgettable experiences. In their book, “Slow Travel New Mexico: Unforgettable Personal Experiences in the Land of Enchantment,” award-winning travel journalists and Santa Fe residents Fein and Ross take readers on a journey through the Land of Enchantment. They invite the audience to slow down, immerse themselves in the local culture and see the world with fresh eyes.

Fein and Ross crisscross New Mexico, uncovering one-of-a-kind adventures, like painting with an abstract artist on the Navajo Reservation, visiting a wolf refuge, cruising in a lowrider, hiking in a volcano, gourmet dining at Zuni Pueblo, encountering a ghost and tracking the true story of Billy the Kid.

Ruidoso and Lincoln County feature prominently in the book, with chapters that celebrate the unique character of the area. Fein and Ross discuss experiences like discovering what your axe-throwing style reveals about your personality, the joy of the serene beauty of Monjeau Lookout and the tranquility of a cabin in the forest.

They’ll also share stories from nearby communities, including Capitan, Lincoln, Fort Stanton and Carrizozo — each offering its own unexpected and memorable adventures.

“Slow Travel New Mexico” is more than a travel guide — it’s an invitation to experience each place on its own terms, revealing its stories through thoughtful exploration and personal encounters.

The book inspires to search for the rich tapestry of New Mexico’s unique communities and landscapes.
