Bulgaria Digital Nomad Visa 2025 New DNV for Bulgaria!
Great news for digital nomads! Our favorite Bulgarian attorney shares details about the new digital nomad visa in Bulgaria, making it easier to live and work there. This new visa offers a dedicated residency option specifically designed for non-EU remote professionals and an additional opportunity for the digital nomads that attend the Bansko Digital Nomad Fest every year.
The new Bulgaria digital Nomads visa offers a dedicated residence option specifically designed for non-EU remote professionals. Successful applicants are granted a two-year residence card, with the possibility to renew their status for an additional year. After this period, individuals can continue residing in the country by switching to another status, such as a work permit, freelancer visa, or alternative legal grounds.
Eligibility for this digital nomads visa is tailored to attract remote professionals who generate income from outside Bulgaria without impacting the local market. The following groups may apply:
• Digital nomads—individuals offering remote digital services to clients or companies outside Bulgaria.
• Freelancers and contractors who provide IT services for clients located abroad.
• Shareholders and directors of non-EU companies that deliver IT services to clients outside Bulgaria.
• Remote employees working for organizations based outside the European Union, delivering IT services remotely.
The central idea behind this visa is straightforward: you bring your job, skills, and income streams with you while enjoying Bulgaria’s attractive flat tax rate—one of the lowest in the EU at just 10%. You are not permitted to compete in the local Bulgarian market, which is relatively small. Instead, your economic contribution comes from living and spending in Bulgaria while working globally. This approach ensures the local workforce and businesses remain unaffected, while the country benefits from an influx of skilled, globally connected residents, who receive the lowest taxation and great lifestyle in the country.
The applicants have to meet only one specific income requirement to be eligible for the digital nomad visa. Prospective residents must demonstrate annual earnings equivalent to at least 50 times the Bulgarian minimum wage for the previous year. Currently, this amounts to 27,600 EUR in annual income and is not expected to rise soon. This financial threshold is designed to ensure that digital nomads are self-sufficient and able to support themselves comfortably while residing in Bulgaria.
Finally, the applicants have to satisfy the standard requirements applicable to other residence categories. These include providing proof of a local address in Bulgaria, maintaining valid health insurance for the duration of their stay, and presenting a recent criminal background check from their country of residence. Also, the applicants should demonstrate access to sufficient financial resources—specifically, a minimum balance of around 7,000 EUR in a personal bank account—to ensure they can support themselves independently without relying on the Bulgarian social assistance system.
