Cancun and the Riviera Maya are once again at the heart of Mexico’s vibrant Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) celebrations, with tourism officials expecting around 1.6 million hotel bookings between October 27 and November 2. The figure represents a 2.3% increase compared to last year, confirming the region’s continued appeal as one of Mexico’s top cultural and travel destinations.

According to Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, 73% of travelers are domestic tourists, while 27% are international visitors, drawn by the country’s rich cultural traditions and unique way of honoring life and death. “The Day of the Dead is a celebration full of color and joy where we honor life through our traditions,” said Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

In Quintana Roo, the festivities take on a special local flavor through Janal Pixan, the Mayan version of the Day of the Dead. In Cancun, the city will host the “Puerto de los Suspiros” (Port of Sighs) cultural show in Puerto Juárez from October 30 to November 2. Meanwhile, Playa del Carmen will hold Janal Pixan events at Plaza 28 de Julio from October 31 to November 3.

With packed hotels, colorful altars, and festive parades, the Riviera Maya is once again set to celebrate one of Mexico’s most iconic and meaningful traditions in grand style.
