Cheers, lads and lasses!

We at Travel Off Path are at it again, scouring the globe for the most underrated destinations that will surely wow you.

When it comes to the UK, the last aspect most Americans would consider is to pack sunscreen and swimwear, when the more common itinerary consists of scoping out timeless architecture, classic pubs, and iconic landmarks we’ve all seen on screen at some point.

But there is indeed a remote region of the UK with ‘Caribbean’ vibes that’s become much easier to reach, so your next adventure across the pond doesn’t have to be a one-and-done bank account zapper in London.

It’s true, you can now enjoy vibrant blue waters, sunny skies, and lovely beachfront hotels in one of the UK’s least known destinations that even some Brits couldn’t point out on a map.

According to TimeOut, the Isles of Scilly are destined to be the UK’s new vacation hotspot as more travelers venture beyond longtime favorites in place of more adventure, fewer crowds, and a cache of surprises even guidebooks may miss.

Don’t Be A Scilly Goose! Visit The UK’s Unsuspecting Beach Paradise

First things first — Isles of Scilly is pronounced “SILL-ee“. Think less Liam Neeson, more silly goose.

Whether you correctly pronounce it or not, the bottom line is this gleaming blue oasis is beyond due for its time to shine.

Located roughly 30 miles away from Cornwall, arguably the UK’s most recognizable beach destination ’til now, these paradise islands consist of 140 different islands, but only 5 are inhabited:

  • St Mary’s (main hub)
  • Tresco
  • St Martin’s
  • St Agnes
  • Bryher

Unless you just really want some quiet time in no man’s land, St Mary’s is the one isle you should game plan for.

Don’t worry — we’ll dive into which beaches to hit up, but first, you should know this isn’t just a place to kick back and waste away all day.

There’s a surprising amount to explore in St. Mary’s. For example, the 1500 BC site of Porth Hellick Down is an absolute must-see for those who have similar landmarks such as Stonehenge on their bucket list.

But some attractions are even more immersive, such as the highly touted Star Castle Hotel.

As you might’ve guessed, it’s a bona fide 16th-century castle you can stay in, and it also offers unmatched sweeping sea views. And there are plenty of other gorgeous stays to choose from as well.

The Warmest UK Destination

Travelers often book trips based on reputation. Since nobody seems to watch the weather reports anymore (sorry, Al Roker), many might believe the entire UK lives up to its gloomy reputation.

But that’s not true when it comes to the Isles of Scilly.

TimeOut claims it’s the perfect place to ‘enjoy the UK’s warmest weather’, making it a flawless add-on to a London vacation.

Instead of packing long sleeves and fuzzy socks for your whole trip, you can squeeze in swimwear for a few days for fun in the sun, where you might least expect it.

London still sees weather hovering in the low 40s to high 50s throughout spring, while St Mary andthe surrounding islands boast sunnier weather pushing 60 on a daily basis.

Better yet, whatever you picture a nightmare scenario for spring break (ahem, Panama City…), the exact opposite should be what you envision here as the Isles of Scilly toruism board claims there are over 35 secluded beaches for your enjoyment.

Many boast stunning turquoise waters and even white sand like the Caribbean. But which one is the best?

According to TripAdvisor, those in the know have spoken. Travelers’ favorite is Porthcressa Beach, holding a near-perfect rating and rave reviews, such as one summer beachgoer who claimed, “It is the most amazing place – my favorite holiday destination for the last 25+ years!”.

Easier To Reach Than Ever

Not often do we report on domestic flights in Europe. However, since the obvious way to reach the UK is via well-connected London, we had to share why we believe the Isles of Scilly are the UK’s new hotspot, and it all boils down to its newfound accessibility.

Beginning March 2026, instead of taking a multi-stop journey by trains and boats, travelers will be able to fly from London Gatwick (LGW) to St Mary’s Airport (ISC) in just about 3 hours with a single ticket on Skybus.
