I’m an expat in Australia — here’s why Americans are seen as loud and obnoxious

An ashamed U.S. expat is begging her fellow citizens to tone things down while abroad, saying the rest of the world sees Americans — perhaps unsurprisingly — as “loud and obnoxious.”
Tay Marin, who has been living in Australia for the past six years, took to TikTok to proclaim that Americans are viewed internationally in the same way that Floridians are viewed domestically.
“We’re seen as some pretty crazy people,” she stated in a viral video shared earlier this month. “You know how everyone from the U.S. thinks everyone from Florida is crazy? That’s how the world feels about us.
“Do not get me started on guns, or the presidents, or anything political — but just know everyone thinks we’re going backward, and no one is vibing with it,” the TikTokker further sassed
Marin added that Americans are “not top dog” and told them to quiet down.
“You’re a level 10. I’m going to need you to be a level 4. We don’t need to express all of our thoughts out loud,” the expat asserted. “When you’re in a restaurant, you don’t need to tell everyone how you’re feeling, what you’re doing, your whole life story.”
The intrepid traveler urged her fellow Americans to “pick up a map,” ” learn sarcasm” and “get educated” about the rest of the world, too.
“The whole world is not the USA,’” she said. “There is so much more out there, and it is so beautiful, and I know not everyone is able to travel like me. I’m very lucky for that.”
Despite slamming her fellow citizens, many Americans responded to agree with Marin.
“I’m American and I feel this so much,” one U.S. national forlornly wrote.
“I feel like people think America is so great, like we know it isn’t but we were born here unfortunately,” a second commiserated.
Meanwhile, people around the world chimed in to share some U.S. slander.
“Everywhere we go people ask if we are Americans. When we tell them we are Canadian you can see the relief on their faces!” one Cancuk claimed.
However, many other foreigners insisted they love those from the USA.
“I’m Australian and I love Americans … they take everyone as they are,” one supporter stated
“It’s worth saying Americans are also amazingly friendly and generous as a people,” a second stated.
