“Ninder” wants you to swipe right to meet fellow world travelers

For those of you who have Tinder’d and Grindr’d your way across the globe, and still haven’t found what you’re looking for when it comes to love, there may be hope out there yet in the form of a new dating app meant to connect world travelers.

Ninder — yes, Ninder — has just gone live with an early Beta version offering up a taste of what users might come to expect. And SPOILER ALERT: It’s a lot like that other ‘inder app. The name of the app comes not from any sort of plan to connect users looking for love with Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor (though such a dating app was this close to actually happening not too long ago). Instead, Ninder borrows its N from sister company Nomad List, the immensely helpful guide assisting location-independent workers to find global destinations to live and work.

With Ninder, founder Pieter Levels adds another handy product to the tool belt he has built for the world’s constant travelers.

“A whole new generation of people is now becoming perpetual travelers. Recently we’ve seen the rise of the digital nomad, who works anywhere and travels wherever they want. But even further than just them, location is becoming less important for generation Y. They’re all over the place right now.”

And as to what Ninder provides that isn’t already being offered by similar dating apps, Levels points out:

“The challenge there is relationships. While it’s relatively easy to date locals, it becomes harder when you move on to the next place when they probably can’t join you. I wanted to make something that would help users to match up with other people with wanderlust. For casual dating or long-term romance.

Ninder and Nomad List recently hosted a singles meetup in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and plan on throwing further events in cities with especially high Ninder usage. And soon enough, the app will integrate with another of Levels’ offerings, Nomad Trips. Users will be able to list their upcoming travel itineraries to match up with other Ninder users with overlapping calendars. And that’s something we can all swipe right about.
