Accepted Japan Digital Nomad Visa Country List
4 min readJapan announced the launch of its digital nomad visa in March 2024. However, there are restrictions on which nationalities can apply. We’ve created the accepted Japan digital nomad visa country list of who is eligible to apply.
The digital nomad community has widely accepted the opportunity to stay in Japan for six months to experience working remotely from this trending destination.
While one of the shortest digital nomad visas available, it doesn’t stop remote workers from applying for the Japan digital nomad visa if they meet the eligibility requirements.
In this article, we will review the eligibility requirements and the accepted Japan digital nomad visa country list and nationalities that can submit visa applications.
What is the Japan Digital Nomad Visa?
The Japan digital nomad visa is a six-month temporary stay visa specifically for remote workers and their immediate family members.
With the digital nomad visa, remote workers can stay almost twice as long as a normal tourist visa allows.
It’s important to note that the Japan digital nomad visa does not allow you to sign a long-term lease agreement or register for the country’s national healthcare system.
Who is Eligible for the Japan Digital Nomad Visa?
The Japan digital nomad visa has some of the strictest eligibility requirements we have seen, putting it on the same level as the Czech Republic and Thailand.
To be eligible for Japan’s digital nomad visa, you must meet the following criteria:
- Valid Passport from Accepted Countries – Your passport must be from one of the 49 accepted nationalities that have visa-free or double-tax agreements with Japan
- Work Remotely – You must work remotely as an employee or freelancer for entities established outside of Japan
- Earn $68,300 USD per Year – You must meet the minimum income requirement
- International Health Insurance – You must have international health insurance with coverage in Japan for the duration of your stay
