15 Of The Most Glamorous Lake Como Hotels For An A-List Italian Escape
VIDEO
Europe has many grandes dames hotels, and one of the fairest of them all has to be Villa d’Este in Lombardy. This Italian icon has sat on the shores of Lake Como since the 16th century, becoming a luxurious hotel (having been the summer residence of a cardinal) in 1873 – and it has remained a destination of choice for the holidaying aristocracy ever since.
The villa is within strolling distance of the comune of Cernobbio, in the province of Como, over the water from the namesake city. The property is right on the water, with a pool suspended over the lake, a jetty for boat-trip ease, and incredible views. Its 25 acres of parkland span an imposing mosaic at the bottom of a tree-lined path.
For impeccable fine-dining, La Veranda is the place to head – but we’re told George Clooney is a fan of the Grill come summer…
