According to VisaGuide’s Digital Nomad Index for 2025, Spain has emerged as the best destination for digital nomads, ticking off all of the boxes for these restless workers, Schengen.News reports.

Collecting the highest score for being an ideal destination for these workers, Spain stands out especially for its tourism popularity, allowing digital nomads to maintain an entertaining lifestyle while also meeting the criteria they have set for themselves professionally.

This ranking system is based on six determining factors, indicating how each country is convenient for digital nomads. Internet speed is the first determining factor, allowing digital nomads to complete their tasks without having to worry about their Internet connection.

Taxation policies represent another key factor in this index, determining how much digital nomads have to pay and how much they can benefit from a tax-free period while they work remotely. Taxation can often be a “make it or break it” condition for digital nomads seeking a great destination for themselves and their careers.

Countries worldwide have an income requirement that digital nomads have to earn to be eligible to obtain a visa. Therefore, income requirements for visa applications are crucial for digital nomads and had to be included in this index. Living costs are also included in this ranking system.

The Healthcare that a country has to offer is also part of the index, highlighting that digital nomads do take into account what services they can receive in a certain destination before moving there. Tourism popularity, which often describes how vibrant and interesting a destination can be, is also another aspect that can impact digital nomads’ decision to settle in a country.

Top 10 Countries for Digital Nomads in 2025

Based on all of these factors, the top ten countries that emerge as the best destinations for digital nomads are Spain, which stands out for its tourism popularity, followed by the United Arab Emirates which is positioned as the second-highest thanks to its fast internet speed and zero per cent-taxation rates. Curacao, which ranks tenth in this ranking system, is one of the fewest countries that have similar tax rates.

Montenegro and the Bahamas are the third and fourth-best countries for digital nomads, while Hungary ranks fifth. Canada follows, collecting a digital nomad score of 3.43, ranking the country sixth. While Canada ranks this high especially due to its low minimum income requirements, Romania, which ranks seventh, has one of the most affordable living costs on this list.

Portugal and Brazil are the eighth and ninth countries ranked as the best destinations for digital nomads, standing out for low taxation, high tourism popularity rates and minimum income requirements.
