SLOW TRIPS: NEW BOOKING PLATFORM FOR AUTHENTIC AND SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCES  Falstaff

While the pandemic has kept the entire world on tenterhooks for the second year in a row, some new travel trends have emerged. Such as the awareness of enjoying a region to the fullest while paying attention to one’s ecological footprint. The largest leader project currently underway in Europe, the new booking platform “Slow Trips – European Slow Travel Experiences”, focuses on sustainable travel with nine participating project partners from Sweden to Lithuania, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Italy off the beaten tourist track. Especially in post-Covid-19 times, there is an opportunity to redefine the concept of beauty in tourism. Slow Trips shows that you don’t have to travel to the South Seas to enjoy an exotic vacation.

Slow Trips describes a completely new approach to travel itself. The aim is to redefine the concept of beauty in tourism according to the motto “less appearance and more being”. Instead of a wild hunt for pictures and a superficial rattling off of sights, you are invited to slow down, recharge your batteries and immerse yourself in the local culture. This is also an opportunity for tourism development in rural areas.

In cities, it is a challenge to avoid large gatherings of people. This became even more apparent during the coronavirus crisis. This contrasts with life in the rural villages and small towns of the participating partner regions. Slow Trips picks up on the trend towards participatory and sustainable tourism. Whether you cycle to the nearest organic orchard on a bicycle trolley to be tempted by the fruity delicacies and a Demeter workshop, head out on the branching riverbeds to go fishing and then enjoy a barbecue with the local fisherman or simply watch a sunset in silence, the locals call these experiences “home”.

Every trip booked with Slow Trips involves travelers in local life. The hidden places and backyards in the immediate vicinity are insider tips that are made accessible via the booking platform. Travelers can immerse themselves in the stories of the locals on the Slow Trips offers, be it everyday stories or legends in the region’s “lost places”. This personal connection creates genuine friendships, and hosts and travelers can learn from each other.

Experiences that will be remembered

Experience the authentic, discover real insider tips and let yourself fall into the region: the new travel trend has all this to offer. How about some more unusual accommodation, where you can really relax and don’t have to crowd the buffet? Get a taste of the region with all your senses. Live and laugh with the locals, get to know them and their culture. All this and much more creates unmistakable memories.

Nine regions across Europe are currently participating, all of which share a common philosophy and commitment to sustainable tourism. Every trip should be as environmentally friendly as possible. This is also intended to address the economic, social and ecological responsibility of a region. The intensive involvement of local people and the associated local economy in particular brings added value to rural areas.
