Walking Spain's less-travelled Camino del Norte is an opportunity to face the unknown - the weather, terrain and my physical endurance.

Make it happen

When to go: The Camino is a year-round activity, but the busiest times are summer and fall.

How to get to the Camino: This depends on your starting point. From Canada, there are seasonal direct flights to Madrid from Montreal and Toronto with Air Canada, Air Transat and Air France. Another option is to fly into Porto or Lisbon and then connect to an airport in Spain.  Check flights here.

Travel by train: Spain also has a very good train network. There is a high-speed train from Madrid to just about anywhere. After the Camino I will take the train to Malaga. The train was easy and pleasant, giving me time to catch up on sleep and some writing.  Book your train trip here on Trainline

Rent a car: Most of the major brands, such as Avis, Budget, Europcar operate in Spain, with car rentals available at the train stations. An International Driver’s License is recommended but not mandatory. Find a rental car here.

Where to stay in Spain: There are so many beautiful hotels in Spain and its historical paradors are unique.  To look for hotels recommended by women in Spain, click here or check Booking.com.
